The turmeric is grown by the Kasaraneni family amidst marigolds, bananas and black rice on their 3rd generation farm in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh. Prabhu Kasaraneni’s family has been farming for three generations, but he is a self-taught organic farmer who began growing heirloom Pragati turmeric in 2015, with assistance from the Indian Institute of Spice Research.

Founded in 2017 by Sana Javeri Kadri, Diaspora Co. is a direct trade, single-origin spice company dedicated to building a better spice trade. They put money, equity and power into the hands of Indian farmers to disrupt and decolonize an outdated commodity spice trading system.
